Situated within the Coed-y-Brenin the Tyn-y-Groes is a popular base for mountain biking, walking, fishing, birdwatching and much more..We are surrounded by spectacular scenery including forests, mountains, waterfalls lakes and rivers and we are a short drive to the Mawddach estuary and on to the coast at Barmouth.

For the mountain bikers the Coed-y Brenin is the place to be .The visitor and mountain biking centre just 2 miles to the north, has some of the finest mountain biking in the UK including the famous Beast, Dragons Back (Both some 200 yards from the Hotel)and Tarw trails, also with easy access to trails at Machynlleth, Betws-y-Coed and Llandegla. For the walkers it is within easy reach of the waterfalls at Ganllwyd and Gwynfynydd, the Old and New Precipice walks, the Mawddach Estuary trail, the Copper Trail and the Cader I dris and Rhinog mountain ranges. Try this walk.

For the fisherman the Hotel has its own stretch of water and pools adjacent to the hotel and has permits available to an extra 13 miles of Dolgellau angling association waters on the Mawddach and Wnion rivers and Llyn Cynwch lake. On display in the hotel restaurant is the largest sea trout ever caught on the Mawddach by Vic Roberts on 7th October 2001 and weighing in at a staggering 21lbs 8oz 5 drms

For the tourist the hotel is conveniently situated for short drives to....the beaches at Fairbourne and Barmouth, the Mawddach estuary the castles at Harlech and Criccieth, the Centre for Alternative Technology at Machynlleth, the miniature railways of Fairbourne, Ffestiniog and Tal-y-Llyn, slate mines, craft centres and numerous other interesting places. A varied selection of leaflets is available at the hotel.

There are several golf courses in the area.

For the bird watchers the RSPB has two reserves in the Mawddach valley open to the public as well as the Penmaenpool Information Centre about 5 miles to the south.
