Arran Cartwright in action

The Coed-y-Brenin truly is the mountain biking centre of Wales. Located just 3 miles to the north in the foothills of the Rhinogs is the Coed-y-Brenin visitor centre with cafe, souvenir, mountain bike shop bike wash and other amenities. Many well signposted tracks and trails start here including the Karrimor (21 miles), MBR, Red Bull(6 miles) and Pink Heifer as well as a short dual slalom course. The tracks pass through both coniferous and broadleaved forests, through valley floors and along mountain ridges affording spectacular views. There are technically demanding rocky downhills and some long ascents. Interesting names have been assigned to parts of the various trails such as The Rocky Horror Show, Uncle Fester, Snap Crackle and Pop etc.... Route guides are available at the visitor centre but there are many unlisted trails to be found and explored. Landranger maps OS 124 and 125 cover this area. Why not plan your route to include the Tyn-y-Groes Hotel for lunch. Better still stay with us. We have secure bike storage and can cater for parties. Our dining room off the bar holds 28 people and our restaurant 40 and the standard menu is supplemented by specials from the blackboard.

FAT TYRE FESTIVAL

In April (2002) the Coed-y-Brenin was host to the inaugural Fat Tyre Festival, a two day non competitive event for all abilities including rides of 11,20 and 50km with additional temporary food stops (optional) at the Pinderosa and elsewhere. For the early bird (because they were snapped up very quickly) Scott USA were loaning out top of the range new bikes for riders to try in these events. There were also stalls with various bike related goods.
