What a brilliant place!
Me and my girlfriend stayed here on ***0 Nov ***0****** for two nights.
All i can say is what a brilliant place it is. We told them that we were going to be late on the fri night, when we arrived they couldnt do enough for us. The food is excellent and well priced the waitresses are very polite and the bar staff very friendly we ended up drinking with them and the hotel owener until the early hours in the morning putting the world to rights lol.
I cant remember any of the bar staffs names but thanks anyway for a goodone :-) This hotel is situated right in the heart of wales so much to do from mountain biking to walking the views are *** not to mention the waterfalls just down the road which are def worth looking at.
Anyway enough said i hope this comment is of use to anyone thinking of visiting you wont be dissapointed.

Great location, great value, will be back!
We stayed for 2 nights at Tyn Y Groes on a very warm & sunny weekend in May. We were met by Derek who showed us to our room after registration. We were advised about breakfast times, evening dinner etc. We could only get a twin room, which was quite small, but was very clean, and very cosy, so we didn't mind at all (room 6m, at the back).
The bar area is very welcoming, and the rear terrace was nice and sociable. We ate in the restaurant on both nights, as the menu was fairly limited, but offered enough choice for me & my wife, and a core of popular dishes.
I had Thai style salmon fillet, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the full rack of ribs. The BBQ sauce was delicious.
The service was good, although my only recommendation would be for the staff to a little bit more sociable with guests. Breakfasts were quiet with not much conversation from the waitresses. This in no way undermines the service, but would enhance further the enjoyment of the guests, & is only my own opinion - i like to feel like you can get to know the people where you're staying & we didn't on this occasion. We still left a tip for the waitresses after our last meal.
As a 30-something couple we were looking for somewhere that offered us a good base to Explore Coyd Y Brenin MTB trails, and walks. This hotel is on the main road just a couple of miles from the car park, and therefore perfect for locality. The views are spectacular, across the road you can watch the sun rise. On our first night, we took a stroll across the road, and were down by the riverside within 5 minutes.
I would recommend the Tyn Y Groes hotel for anyone looking for a great base for exploring the Snowdonia National Park/ MTB trails/ coastal areas of North Wales.
This was our first experience of Wales, and we will be back to stay with Derek & family.
Thanks for a great introduction to Wales.

Excellent food
We were unable to book in for an overnight stay as the hotel was fully booked so we stayed at a lovely B&B in Brithdir and drove up to Tyn-y-Groes for dinner. The wood burning stove in the bar was very welcoming and the first dining room totally full, so we ate in the second dining room which was quietier. The food was excellent - hearty portions and in particular good quality vegetables. The building dates back around 500 years and has been sympathetically renovated. Several pictures/photos of by-gone years on the walls and a short history of the building appears on both the food menu and wine list. For our next visit to Wales we plan to book sooner and stay overnight at the Hotel as it would have been nice to be able to have a night cap by the fireplace.

Great weekend !
We have just returned home from a three night break at this hotel and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay in room five. Being a very old building the hotel is full of character and is maintained to a high standard. We found the owners and staff to be welcoming and friendly. We had breakfast and evening meals on all three days at the hotel and very much enjoyed them.Hope to return for another stay in the future.
