Rhaedr ddu.........Black falls These are the nearest falls to the hotel. Proceed northwards on the A470 towards the village of Ganllwyd(0.6 miles). After the white bungalow on the left and before the village hall at the start of the village turn left through a gate and follow the river upwards (on foot) for about 400 metres. Cross a wooden bridge over the river and the falls are visible a liitle further up. If using the car then immediately after the village hall there is a free car park on the right hand side of the road.
Pistyll Cain (Pistyll is Welsh for waterfall) A SSSI site of national importance for bryophytes (ferns) and mosses. From the Hotel cross the road, proceed down a path to the river, cross bridge and cattle grid then turn left along a forest track. Continue for about 1500 metres then recross the river on the suspension bridge and turn right to follow the river upstream for another 1500 metres when these falls can be seen (and heard) on the left. The water above these falls used to be piped past the falls and used to generate hydroelctric power for both the nearby Gwynfynydd Gold Mine and the nearby village of Ganllwyd. Continue a further 100 metres to the nearby Rhaedr Mawddach falls If you like to make this a circular walk continue upstream for 200 metres, cross the wooden bridge and follow the river downstream on the opposite bank until you reach the bridge and path leading to the hotel.
